Polka Dots on My Paper Pumpkin

I was pretty excited about the February Paper Pumpkin kit! Since I needed a bag for a thank you gift, I pulled it out and played with it today.

As I was assembling the letters to say "THANKS", I realized that the piece of paper they came on was a perfect polka dot template:

You do need to flip it around to get each corner, but it worked perfectly with a little sponging. I guess you could use the Pistachio Pudding ink spot that came with the kit to do this, too, but I didn't think of it until afterward.

Since it was a flower-themed gift, I just punched out a few flowers with the Fancy Flower punch (item #118073) for the letters and everything else was in the kit!

The lighting seems a little weird today, so apologies for that, but I think you get the idea :)

Here's a look at the February Kit (unless you just signed up for Paper Pumpkin, in which case you received the Welcome Kit):

Thanks for choosing Loni Spendlove as your demonstrator when you sign up for Paper Pumpkin! And FYI: signing up before March 31, 2014 means you get a set of markers FREE in your Welcome Kit...
Do it NOW!

Candy Corn & Paper Piecing Mashup

A sure sign of fall isn't the falling leaves or cooler temperatures...it's the CANDY! Remember when you could ONLY get candy corn in Autumn and Peeps at Easter? That was before they started making pastel corn for Easter and Peeps ghosts for Halloween...ah, the good old days...

I've been thinking about tags lately, so this popped into my head when I saw the Friday Mashup challenge (mashing up a fall food theme and paper piercing, FM128) and the Freshly Made Sketch (FMS104) this week:

The paper piercing was inspired by Patty B (but on a smaller version of hers). Here's how I made the candy corn:

So there's a sweet treat double whammy (or is it a triple?) for you today!

Project Recipe (all supplies from Stampin' Up! unless noted):
Stamps: Sweets for the Sweet stamp set
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry
Paper: Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper (132184), card stock: Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Very Vanilla, Whisper White

Curled Paper Bows

Welcome back to my creative wrapping week! If you've missed some of the posts this week, make sure to catch up so you can get your Christmas Gifts wrapped in style :) And I'd love to have you join me for the TP Tube Challenge I posted yesterday!

Years ago my mom started a wrapping paper business where she sold industrial-sized rolls of gift wrap, the metal cutters and oodles of ribbon. As a paper-addict, I was in heaven! Eventually I followed in her footsteps and worked the business for a while until I found Stampin' Up! Anywhooo...that's where I learned this lovely little technique to make a curled paper bow from your gift wrap:
Wrapping paper is super-easy to curl because it is light-weight paper, but I am teaching you the technique using SU! Designer Series Paper (Be Of Good Cheer~126896)

1. Start with a piece of wrapping paper or DSP. This is a 12x12 piece of DSP and you begin by folding it in half. If using a rectangle, fold it in half the long way, or "hot dog" fold. My favorite size is about 18" x 12" for a large package, but don't worry about the measurements...just grab a piece of paper from your printer and follow along!!
2. Take the open edge and fold it up toward the folded edge, leaving about 1" along the folded edge.
3. Cut from the bottom fold up toward the center fold, just through the open end edge, all the way across, about 3/4" to 1" wide. No need to measure, just start cutting :)
4. Once you are finished, unfold the whole paper and you will have "spider legs" on both sides with a fold down the middle, like this:
5. Now the fun begins! Use your scissors and "curl" the paper as you would a ribbon, with the pattern you want to show the most of on the opposite side of your scissors. As you are curling, you may pull off one of the "legs" (see the one in the background of the picture?) No worries: You will never notice it when it is finished!
 6. When you are done curling, your paper or gift wrap will look like this:
 7. If you are using gift wrap, just SCRUNCH it together up the middle fold to gather it. Using DSP (which is a little heavier) you may find it easier to fan fold it as you go along. The cuts you made make it pretty simple to do quickly. Again, this isn't rocket science, so you don't have to be exact, just fold it and go! Then grab an old bread twist tie (doesn't matter what color...mine is BLUE!) and wrap it around the gathers/folds and twist to secure.
8. Once your bow is secure, just mush it around until looks like a big fluffy bow and tape it to your gift and add a tag! This tag was stamped in Cherry Cobbler Ink (126966) with the Dec. 25 image from the Tags 'til Christmas stamp set (wood~120847 or clear~121169), punched with the Decorative Label Punch (120907) and adorned with Champagne Glass Glitter (120997), all of which can be ordered from my website

Angry Birds

I forgot to share these adorably simple little Owl treat bags we made clear back in July:
By "We" I mean my husband and I...we created 120 of them and filled them with goodies for the Late Night Stamper Reunion Party (the Owl is the mascot of the LNS)  He (my hubby) had fun making each owl with it's own personality (crossed eyes, goofy eyes, angry eyes) but after the first 50, he wasn't sure he ever wanted to see another bird :o

But look at how cute they are! Did you know that a group of owls is called a "Parliament"?
All you need is some lunch bags, Designer Series Paper (I used the First Edition DSP # 121878),  a few circle punches, glue stick, scissors and stapler! Super simple, super cute.

BIG NEWS!
On Monday, October 29 we are kicking off a whole WEEK of celebration for Digital Scrapbooking day, but that's not all! On Monday ONLY, Stampin' Up! is having a Sell-a-Stamp Spooktacular! All stamps will be 15% off (excluding hostess sets and bundled products)!! Click or call to place your order on Monday, October 29th :)

DSP is for PAPER

As promised, here are some fun projects for you to use with Stampin' Up!s fabulous Designer Series Paper (DSP) and one more way to take advantage of the the BUY 3 GET ONE FREE August Special! Here is the first project:
Basket o' Tags
and here is another fun DSP project that my 2010/11 Hostesses made at the Hostess Appreciation Party in July:
Stampin' Up! Supplies needed: DSP, Taffeta Ribbon, Fleurettes II, Antique Brads, Ink Refill, Sticky Strip, Stampin' Dimensional.
Optional SU! Supplies: Jewelry Tag punch, stamps, ink.
Other Supplies: Small acrylic photo frame, post-it notes.

This super-easy project begins with DYING the fleurette (handmade, crocheted flower).
  1. Place approx. 3-4 tablespoons of water in a small bowl. Add a few drops of re-inker color and mix into the water.
  2. Drop your flower/fleurette into the water and submerge for 30-45 seconds. Hint: The longer you leave it in, the darker the resulting color.
  3. Remove fleurette and place on a stack of paper towels. Blot, allow to dry.
It's really that easy!

Instructions for the rest of the project:
  1. Cut a piece of DSP the same size as your frame and slide it into the frame.
  2. Place a line of sticky strip across the top (really the bottom) of the frame where your ribbon will be "pinched" or folded across. Note: The frame will be laid down horizontally instead of standing vertically like a frame.
  3. Add an antique brad to your dried fleurette and attach with a Stampin' Dimensional.
  4. Finish it off by adding a pad of post it notes.

Misty Watercolor Memories...

I'm not ready to jump into the winter or even the holiday season quite yet, so here's a tribute to Autumn: Oh, that your vivid colors hadn't faded so quickly!

This is a gift bag I created using a watercolor technique: color your stamp using Stampin' Write markers, then mist lightly with water before stamping to run the colors together. (I use an empty Stampin' Mist bottle filled with water). Isn't it lovely?

Recipe: Inspired by Nature stamp set, Mellow Moss, Ruby Red, Summer Sun and Chocolate Chip markers and card stock, Naturals Ivory card stock, Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon, scallop edge punch, brown lunch bag.
